[Everyone] IPTA / MeerTime post-doc position in France (Orléans)

The Orléans/Nançay team proposes a two-year post-doctoral position 
(extension possible up to 4 years) focused both on the International 
Pulsar Timing Array (IPTA) data combination and data gravitational wave 
analyses and on an active participation in MeerTime consortium 
observations with the MeerKAT radio telescope. The contract will start on 
January 2019

In practice, the activity will consist in preparing and conducting pulsar 
timing observations with both the Nançay Radio Telescope (NRT — Nançay, 
France) and MeerKAT (Karoo, South Africa), and reducing the data obtained 
as part of these observations. Series of high-accuracy Times of Arrival 
(TOAs) will then be extracted from these datasets, which will be combined 
with other IPTA datasets to determine pulsar timing models and 
characterize sources of noise from the individual pulsars in details. We 
expect the post-doc to be part of both the timing and analysis working 
groups of the IPTA and to participate actively in their busy weeks and 
teleconferences. We expect also that she/he will spend 4-6 weeks per year 
in Cape Town, working closely with the MeerKAT radio telescope team and 
helping in the scientific exploitation of the instrument for the MeerTime 
consortium.

The post-doc will also have privileged access to the NRT pulsar timing 
data base (about 2600 hrs/year of pulsar observations since 2004) for 
her/his own scientific projects.

The PTA French team currently comprises five permanent pulsar and 
gravitational wave astronomers, with two PhD students starting in October 
2018 and October 2019 respectively, and another post-doc starting next 
December 2018.
