Applications are invited for several Postdoctoral positions funded by the
H2020 ERC Consolidator project: MAGNESIA - The impact of highly magnetic
neutron stars in the explosive and transient Universe. The positions will
be based at the Institute of Space Sciences (CSIC-IEEC) in Barcelona,
Spain, and starting dates might be between June 2019 and early 2020,
depending on specific needs. The host institution is part of of Spanish
National Research Council (CSIC), comprises several groups spanning from
Astrophysics, Cosmology, Planets, Gravitational Waves, and Nuclear
Astrophysics, and hosts several laboratories to shape next generation space
and ground-based instruments. At the same time, Barcelona is one of the
most attractive cities in Europe, full of art, music, beautiful beaches,
perfect weather, big mountains around, good food, and extremely family
friendly.
*Job description*
We start the ERC MAGNESIA project searching for two postdoctoral fellows,
with an initial appointment for two years, with possible renewal up to four
years, depending on performance and the project needs. To strengthen our
team, we are looking for enthusiastic and motivated astrophysicists, both
theorists and observers, with the will of contributing to a vibrant group,
and sharing with us a passion for neutron stars, pulsars, gamma-ray bursts,
fast radio bursts, and the most explosive events in the Universe.
Specifically we are looking for young researchers with expertise in any of
those subjects: search for periodic and transient signals in multi-band
data, multi-band data analysis, pulsar timing, multi-band follow-up of
transient events, population synthesis, magnetic field evolution, Monte
Carlo and MHD simulations. The group will have a proprietary computer
cluster and a supporting computer scientist to run our analysis and
simulations.
Applicants should hold a PhD-degree within the area of physics, be a social
and enthusiastic person, and with the will of understanding the weird
behaviour of the neutron star population. Salaries are relatively high for
Spanish standards and needs, and they might vary depending on expertise and
personal situation between 30-50 keuros (gross annual). All contracts
include health insurance, retirement plan, parental leave, and unemployment
benefits. The Institute of Space Sciences (CSIC-IEEC) is an equal
opportunity, affirmative action employer, and is strongly committed to
welcome diversity.
*Deadline: March 1st, 2019 *- although late submissions might be considered
until all positions are filled.
*How to apply: *Send your CV, a 1-page research statement, and 3 reference
letters to: Nanda Rea (email: rea at ice.csic.es) .
