[Everyone] First announcement: 2020 IPTA meeting and student workshop

Dear all,

It is our pleasure to announce the 2020 International Pulsar Timing Array (IPTA) meeting and student workshop, to be held this June in Australia.  Abstract submission is now open, and registration will open shortly.

Science meeting (June 15-19, Hobart, Tasmania):   The meeting will bring together observers, data analysts, and theoreticians interested in the detection and study of nanohertz-frequency gravitational waves through pulsar timing.   The meeting will address both the astrophysics of the sources of the gravitational radiation, including supermassive black holes, and the astrophysics of pulsars required to detect and study the predicted gravitational waves. Invited and contributed presentations and posters will highlight recent progress and challenges facing in the field. Discussion sessions will be used to roadmap scientific goals and other plans for the community for the coming years.  Plenty of time will be set aside for informal collaboration. The meeting will be held on the campus of the University of Tasmania.   The meeting coincides with the renowned Dark Mofo arts and cultural festival.

Student workshop (June 9-12, Melbourne Victoria):  The student workshop will be held on the Swinburne University campus from 9-12 June 2019.  The curriculum for the workshop includes a series of lectures and tutorials relating to analysis of pulsar timing array data. Subjects will include precision pulsar timing with modern techniques, Bayesian inference and noise analyses, and gravitational wave detection and astrophysics. The projects are designed to suit undergraduate students to postdoctoral researchers. Students will also get hands-on experience (remotely) observing pulsars with the Parkes 64-metre radio telescope, and will then analyse their data.
