Dear colleagues,

Apologies if you receive this multiple times.
I am writing to advertise a postdoctoral position in theoretical stellar astrophysics at the FORTH Institute of Astrophysics <https://www.ia.forth.gr/>.

The position is related to the Horizon project:
ARGOS Conceptual Design Study: Designing a Next-Generation Radio Facility for Multi-Messenger Astronomy (Grant Agreement number: 101094354).

The successful applicant is expected to conduct cutting-edge research in theoretical stellar astrophysics, with a focus on developing an open-source,
modular population-synthesis code to simulate populations of compact objects and their gravitational and E/M emission.

The position is open to candidates with a Ph.D. in astrophysics or related field.
This is an exciting opportunity for recent graduates with a background in agile software development to further their research experience and contribute to large European R&D projects.

The successful candidate will work in the international and multidisciplinary environment of FORTH in Heraklion, Crete, Greece, and collaborate with members of the FORTH Institute of Astrophysics and Institute of Computer Science.
In addition, the postdoctoral researcher will have the opportunity to:

• collaborate closely with other ARGOS-CDS nodes in France (CEA-Saclay), Germany (Max-Planck-Institute for Radio Astronomy) and Greece (University of Piraeus),
• present their research in international conferences and meetings,
• participate in teaching activities and the supervision of graduate students;
• receive training and support in writing competitive grant applications;
• present their research in international conferences and meetings;
• participate in the European Pulsar Timing Array, Einstein Telescope, and LISA Consortia.

The Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas (FORTH) <https://www.forth.gr/en/home/> is the largest and most prestigious research center in Greece with modern facilities and highly qualified personnel.
It comprises ten research institutes located throughout Greece.
The Institute of Computer Science (ICS-FORTH) and the Institute of Astrophysics (IA-FORTH) are located in the main campus,
around 5km south of Heraklion on the island of Crete, Greece.

Members of both ICS-FORTH and IA-FORTH are involved in the ARGOS-CDS project.

The group is committed to diversity and equality, encourages applications from women and underrepresented minorities, and supports a flexible and family-friendly work environment. The position will provide access to state-of-the-art research facilities and resources, as well as an attractive benefits package.
