The Nançay-Orléans pulsar group is opening a two year post-doc position in
the framework of the project “MORPHER” : Modelling, Observing, seaRching
Pulsars from High Energy to Radio. MORPHER focuses on the multi-wavelength
observation and modeling of neutron star electrodynamics under strong
electromagnetic and gravitational fields. It relies on complementary
expertise in theoretical/computational astrophysics and
observational/instrumental data acquisition and analysis. The main goal is
to accomplish a significant step towards self-consistent modeling of
pulsar magnetospheres on the basis of their multi-wavelength observations.
Our contribution in that project is to provide new radio data (single
pulse multi frequency data, polarization information, spectral energy
distributions, etc...) for a variety of pulsars, for better constraining
and testing magnetospheric models developed in particular by Jérôme
Pétri's group in Strasbourg. We also collaborate with the three other
French research groups involved in the project, in Toulouse, Bordeaux and
Paris, who are experts in high energy (X-ray, gamma-ray) observations and
characterization of pulsar emission.
The hired post-doc will play a pivotal role between the Nançay-Orléans
team and the other groups and will participate in regular meetings and
teleconferences of the collaboration. He/she will lead dedicated multi
frequency and polarimetric observational programs with NenuFAR, LOFAR,
NRT, or other radio telescopes like MeerKAT and GMRT. He/she will reduce
the acquired data and participate in their analysis in close collaboration
with the Strasbourg group. He/she will also have the opportunity to lead
his/her own research projects, have privileged access to the extended NRT,
LOFAR-FR606 and NenuFAR pulsar databases (to be discussed within the local
team), and will be welcome to participate in the other on-going pulsar
programs we are leading. We expect the recruited colleague to have
experience in pulsar observations and radio astronomy and to have a solid
knowledge of the most current data reduction software used by the
community (e.g. Tempo/Tempo2, PSRCHIVE).
The Nançay-Orléans team is hosted by the Laboratoire de Physique et Chimie
de l'Environnement et de l'Espace (LPC2E), located on the CNRS campus in
the South of Orléans city centre, 140 km South of Paris. The team is
currently composed of four permanent researchers (Ismaël Cognard, Lucas
Guillemot, Jean-Mathias Griessmeier and Gilles Theureau), one post-doc and
three PhD students, with usually two graduate students joining us for 3-5
month internships starting in spring. The team is deeply involved in the
instrumentation and in the operation of the three radio telescopes NenuFAR
(10-85 MHz), LOFAR-FR606 (30-85 and 110-250 MHz) and NRT (1.1-3.5 GHz) and
has been leading their pulsar observation programmes for years or even
decades. In terms of international collaboration, it is part of the
EPTA/IPTA consortia, it is leading the NenuFAR pulsar Key Programme and
participates in the LOFAR pulsar working group, MeerTime and TRAPUM
collaborations, as well as NICER and Femi-LAT pulsar groups.
