Dear all,

This is to announce the release of a new version of the ATNF Pulsar Catalogue (PSRCAT): v2.0.0.  This version should be almost identical* to the last-released version of PSRCAT: v1.71.  We have taken that version, converted it into the new PSRCAT v2 format (an sqlite database) and then converted it back to the original PSRCAT v1 text-based format.  We have uploaded that converted version to the webpage (www.atnf.csiro.au/research/pulsar/psrcat<http://www.atnf.csiro.au/research/pulsar/psrcat>) and it should work as normal with any scripts/tools that you currently use.  Hopefully you do not find any errors in this version, but please let us know as soon as possible if you do find any.

We will provide details on how to access and use the sqlite database during our next announcement that will also come with the next version of PSRCAT v2.

PSRCAT v2.0 is based on the enormous amount of work carried out over decades by the PSRCAT v1 developers. In particular we acknowledge the amazing amount of work that Dick Manchester put into ensuring that catalogue was a success and for his support of PSRCAT v2.

The DMEPOCH citation was based on DM1, not DM for J0835-4510. However, the DM measurement paper did not provide an epoch for their measurement.  We have updated the epoch to correspond to half-way between the measurement times in the corresponding DM paper and changed the citation on DMEPOCH. The DMEPOCHs for J2302+4442 and J1012+5307 are related to the DM value, but we are unable to find a suitable DMEPOCH and note that these values should be treated with caution
PEPOCH citation updated for PSR J1720-36
The UNITS citation did not correspond to the parameters for the following parameters and so was removed:
... J0418-4154, J1722-3712, J1739-2903, J1832-0827
For linked timing model parameters the number of decmial places required may be greater than expected from the formal uncertainties. This is because parameters such as T0 and OM may be highly covariant.  psrcat v1.71 there had parameters such as:
  T0 52502.4013744 20000 jbo+07
  OM 296.83635 20000 jbo+07
These parameters are in the psrcat v2.0 database with the same number of decimal places.  However, in our V2 to V1 converter we use the same process for all parameters and use a reasonable number of decimal places. Therefore in the output v1-format file these are listed as:
  T0 52502.401 2 jbo+07
  OM 296.8 2 jbo+07
One of our first new output tools will be to obtain timing models directly from the database and that would be provided with full precision.  We expect this to be available with the next release. In a couple of pulsars (e.g,. J2234+0944) the UNITS citation could link to the astrometric parameters, or separately to the binary parameters.  Probably it is correct for both, but the new version has swapped  the citation - it now relates to the binary parameters, whereas previously it linked to the astrometric parameters.
PSR J0952-0607, J1517-313 and J1517-314 had no discovery survey.  We have added misc. PSR J1000+08   had no discovery survey.  We have added htru_pks. PSR J1604-44   had no discovery survey.  We have added FermiAssoc.
Note that NGLT is now slightly different for some pulsars. This is because NGLT currently is counting the number of  glitch entries per pulsar. Some pulsars have multiple entries for the same glitch event.  PSRCAT v1 had NGLT 2 for J1809-0119,  NGLT 1 for J1838-0537  but no entries for the glitch parameters in the online table. These parameters have been removed in v2.
We have removed TYPE BINARY as it was not being used consistently in v1.71.  It is expected that TYPE BINARY will be reintroduced in a later version.
The following pulsars originally had TYPE BINARY[pqm+21]
   J1312+1810B, J1312+1810D, J1342+2822E, J1342+2822F, J1519+0204F, J1737-0314A, J1737-0314B, J1737-0314C, J1737-0314D, J1737-0314E, J1801-0857I
   J2133-0049A, J2133-0049B, J2133-0049C, J2133-0049D, J2133-0049E
The following pulsars originally had TYPE BINARY(?)[pqm+21]  J1657-0406B, J1953+1846B, J1953+1846C, J2129+1210I
 The following pulsar had TYPE BINARY[ccb+20]     J1812-15
The following pulsar had S1500, which isn't an understood parameter in v1: J2256-1024.  This was S1500 1.2 csm+20  for PSR J2256-1024 and will be re-entered in a future version.
