Hi all,
The ATNF Pulsar Catalogue V1.71 is now available for general use. This version includes details on 3473 pulsars and includes published pulsar discoveries and parameters up to April 2023. Many thanks to Vivek Gupta, George Hobbs, Simon Johnston, Agastya Kapur, Rami Mandow, Tommy Marshman, Saurav Mishra, David Smith, Lawrence Toomey, and Andrew Zic for their assistance with the updates. As well as the newly published results, we have corrected a number of errors and omissions in earlier versions of the Catalogue.
As always, we thank those who have pointed out errors and/or omissions in earlier versions of the Catalogue. If you find any problems in this new version, please let us know asap.
This update marks a significant transition for the ATNF Pulsar Catalogue. Future updates will be managed with a new “PSRCAT2” system that uses a modern database and keeps all relevant information from a given paper regardless of whether or not it improves on existing data for a given pulsar. This project is being led by George Hobbs and Agastya Kapur, with help from several others at ATNF. I will not be directly involved but will act as a consultant to help smooth the transition.
It has been gratifying for the team to see how much the Catalogue is used, not only by “pulsar people”, but also by many others who have an interest in pulsars. Over the 18 years since the 2005 “Manchester, Hobbs, G, Teoh and Hobbs, M.” Catalogue paper was published, it has received more than 2500 citations, with the number growing steadily to reach more than 250 last year.
Once again, on behalf of the PSRCAT team, I thank you all for your help in maintaining the Catalogue, and I wish the PSRCAT2 team the very best with their project.
Regards
Dick Manchester
