[Everyone] Parallel Session on Fast Radio Bursts at the 17th Marcel Grossmann Meeting

Dear colleagues,


We invite you to participate at the Parallel Session on *Fast Radio Bursts*
of the *17th Marcel Grossmann Meeting* that will take place in Pescara,
Italy, from 7th to 12th July 2024.


Fast Radio Bursts (FRBs) are short-duration (~ms) and high-flux density
(~Jy) radio-only events of extragalactic origin, some of which have been
observed to repeat on various timescales. FRB durations define a
characteristic length scale for their engine that points towards a compact
object as a progenitor. The combination of high luminosity and short
variability timescale of FRBs leads to extremely high brightness
temperatures (of order 1036 K) which demands for a coherent emission
process. The detection of 20200428, an FRB-like event produced by the
Galactic magnetar SGR J1935+2154, strengthened the connection between FRBs
and magnetars, and it showed an X-ray counterpart to the radio emission in
the form of a simultaneous burst.

This parallel session welcomes contributions on the many open questions
regarding FRBs, such as their progenitors, their connection with magnetars,
the presence of one or more classes of FRBs.


The deadline for abstract submission is May 31, 2024.
